Photos courtesy of the Charter Desk at Honokohau Harbor.? You haul your boat out for routine maintenance and repairs. After you put it back in service, you hook up your biggest fish of the year. Makes sense if you figure that your newly tuned fishing machine is now set up for its best possible performance. Last week, Topshape came up with a stunning variation on the phenomenon.

Whether looking for the best in Arizona fly fishing or bass fishing, or corporate and group charters and team building tournaments, or private fly casting lessons, or the ultimate in guided fishing adventures, The Hook Up Outfitters Inc. I had a great day of fishing with Ben Koller of the Hook-up Outfitters. His instruction was spot on, the fishing was wonderful and the overall trip was one that everyone should have an opportunity to experience.

After meeting the rest of the guides and seeing their entire fleet of matching trucks and boats it would be very hard to imagine any guide service in the country being much better than The Hook-up Outfitters. I travel the world golfing, but fishing is my passion. On a beautiful day in March, they put me on heaps of bass and crappie and knew what flies would work.

We knocked — em dead!

Luck is nothing but the resin of hard work. Feeding a large cuda is no easy feat. Curious and hesitant by nature a Cuda senses the angler from the get go. For this reason spotting a floater that is slowly swimming along from afar could present the opportunity to ring the bell for supper. The angler that can shoot the entire fly line can negotiate a presentation like a stealth bomber.

Hook’N Up Sport Fishing runs fishing trips off the coast of Florida. You will experience the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and go after the likes of Cobia, Mahi Mahi, Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, Swordfish, and .

A few walleye are being caught slowly trolling minnow imitations or worm harnesses. Trolling faster with rapala minnow imitations is a good method for walleye as well. For crappie use bright colored jigs in the flooded vegetation. The few that fly fish Chimney Reservoir tend to stick with the chartreuse and yellow Clouser minnows. Note that all tiger muskie must be released and report the tag to NDOW. It did slow slightly due to extended high temps but will bounce back quickly with fall nearly here.

As water temperatures drop, the caddis activity will slow some but still be the bug of choice until the cold really sets in. Nymph fishing has slowed slightly but streamer fishing has gotten better with the recent unstable flows. Those indicator fishing or high sticking small worm patterns, olive hares ear, caddis pupa, and pheasant tails are still doing very well.

Light tippet will help as late summer and fall water levels slowly fall into winter flows. The streamer bite should really be on in the coming weeks as fish become more active in cooler water. Although, fishing did slow slightly during the mid-summer heat.

In fact, circle hooks are among the more recent additions to the Northwest halibut-fishing scene, first appearing in the Alaskan long-line fishery in the early s after many years of proving its effectiveness in southern tuna fisheries. Bob Trumble, formerly of the International Pacific Halibut Commission, once told me that the change from J-hooks to circle hooks turned the commercial halibut fishery on its ear, causing such an increase in the long-line harvest in such a short time that scientists at first thought that halibut stocks had exploded.

Once a halibut had a circle hook embedded where it belonged, there was little chance it was going to escape. A baited circle hook attached to a long-line just lies there on the bottom and waits for a halibut to come along, inhale the bait, turn away and slowly tighten against the line until the hook nestles into position and the fish is on to stay.

So, at least part of the answer to the long-argued question of whether circle hooks or J-hooks are better for halibut fishing depends on the temperament of the angler.

Arizona Fishing Report Bass Fishing: Lake Pleasant is starting to fill with water. The change in flows has stalled the bite, but brings with it one of the most anticipated bites of the year once the water stabilizes. During the stall, spoons, dropshot, and some topwater are the best bets. Once things kick in to gear the shallow bite should just explode. Fly fishermen are still catching them on various baitfish streamers.

There have been so. Bartlett Lake has been HOT! Lots of action on spinnerbaits, crankbaits and topwater. There are a lot of solid pound fish coming out right now, pretty much all over the lake. Probably the best bite in the state.
